A Local Shelter
Description
This shelter was established as an outreach to the homeless, especially Veterans, here in North Lakeland. It’s located on U.S. 98 North, just south of Marcum Road. It is not a residential program. Breakfast and lunch meals are provided Monday through Friday by local churches. Christ the King provides the meal every third Monday of the month. Lunch starts with a brief Bible Study, followed by a nutritious meal. Usually 15-20 people enjoy the lunch.
The people that come can bathe, find clean changes of clothes, wash the clothes they have and have access to the pantry for food to take with them.
*** In 2019, Christ the King provided a new washer & dryer, and in 2018 we donated over 1000 pounds of food. ***

What can I do
Pray for the men and women who are served at this shelter, and the volunteer staff. Volunteers are ALWAYS needed to help cook and serve the meals. Please contact our church office if you’d like to volunteer.
Bring in food for the food pantry and put it in the basket in front of the altar. They prefer small servings of canned food and non-perishables. These items are given out for use when the shelter is closed. The other needs at this time are laundry detergent, insect repellent, socks, deodorant, tooth brushes, tooth paste, shampoo and body soap (should be travel size). Clothing of all sizes is always welcome, including socks, gloves, and hats. These items can be dropped off at the church during the week.
You can make a loose offering on Mission Sunday (the first Sunday of any month) which will be part of Christ the King's overall Outreach, provide a check made out to Christ the King with Local Shelter in the Memo line for food & supplies to be purchased by the church and provided to them.
