St. Martin de Porres, Honduras
|
Description
The St. Martin de Porres Ministry is dedicated to providing assistance without regard to race, sex, or religious affiliation.
Our current ministry is primarily geared to helping the people of a small town on the coast of Honduras, Muchilena. Each month we hold a medical clinic. We hire a physician who comes for five hours. In the meantime, a nurse that we sponsored through school sees people in the town who have minor illnesses and injuries, mainly machete wounds suffered while they are working.
Our second major project is a food distribution program. Currently we are providing 14 families with staples for a month (rice, beans, flour, some coffee, and other basics). The families are either very elderly people or extremely needy families.
Our other major program is the university scholarship program. Our latest graduate is an attorney. We have other students in various other programs. There is no public high school in this town, and education is only mandatory for elementary grades. We provide these elementary students with supplies at the beginning of the school year.
